Invenit et Fecit — Contemporary Watchmaking Rooted in Chronometry
François-Paul Journe developed his approach through the restoration and study of historic clocks and watches before creating contemporary mechanisms of his own. He began shaping the collection that would carry his name in 1994 and presented F.P. Journe wristwatches in 1999 under the motto "Invenit et Fecit" — invented and made.
Chronometry sits at the centre of the manufacture. The Tourbillon Souverain introduced a remontoire d'égalité to a tourbillon wristwatch, while the Chronomètre à Résonance applied the phenomenon of resonance to two regulating organs in a wristwatch. These watches helped establish F.P. Journe as one of the defining names in modern independent horology.
In 2004, F.P. Journe moved from brass to 18-carat rose-gold plates and bridges for its movements, creating one of the brand's most recognisable technical signatures. Later creations such as the Astronomic Souveraine expanded the same philosophy into highly complicated watchmaking while retaining a distinctive, restrained visual language.
