The F.P. Journe Répétition Souveraine Ref. RM is the Classique Collection’s minute repeater, built around a movement just 4.50mm thick. That slim profile is the real achievement: a patented striking mechanism and a flat gong mounted under the dial allow a clear, resonant chime from a watch that wears more like a simple hand-wound dress piece than a complication. Hours, quarters, and minutes are sounded on demand with a single slide on the left side of the case, and a discreet window between 9 and 10 o’clock lets you watch the hammers strike.
François-Paul Journe deliberately chose stainless steel for the case. Steel carries sound better than gold or platinum, so the repeater’s tone is at its best in this metal. At 40mm wide and 8.5mm high, the steel case keeps the whole watch light, at roughly 70 grams with its strap, making it one of the lightest complicated watches in the world. The dial follows the clean, restrained layout of the Souveraine line, with sub-seconds at 7:30 and a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock.
Inside, the manual-winding Calibre 1408 has its baseplate and bridges in 18k rose gold and is finished by hand with circular graining, straight waves on the bridges, and polished, bevelled screw heads. Twin mainspring barrels in parallel deliver around 56 hours of power reserve at 21,600 vph, regulated by a free-sprung balance with four inertia weights. Whether you are searching for an F.P.
