Precision Mechanics, In-House Movements and the Evolution of Tradition
Romain Gauthier was born in 1975 in the Vallée de Joux, the historic heart of Swiss fine watchmaking. He trained in precision mechanics at the Technical School of the Vallée de Joux and later worked as an automatic lathe technician for a major watch-component supplier, an engineering background that continues to shape every movement bearing his name.
After deciding in 1999 to create his own watch brand, he spent his spare time completing an MBA and developing movement parts. In 2005 he founded his eponymous company in Le Sentier, and in 2007 he presented his first watch, the Prestige HM, at Baselworld. Investment in CNC machinery and an in-house production team soon allowed the manufacture to make its own movements.
The Logical One, introduced in 2013 with a constant-force mechanism using a snail cam and ruby-link chain, won the Best Men's Complication Watch prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. It was followed by the Insight Micro-Rotor in 2017, the brand's first automatic watch, and by the contemporary C by Romain Gauthier, which in 2022 introduced the brand's first metal bracelet in Grade 5 titanium.
