F.P. Journe Vagabondage II Ref. VII Platinum – Limited Edition of 69

The F.P. Journe Vagabondage II Ref. VII was introduced in 2010 as the second chapter of the Maison’s highly sought-after Vagabondage series. Limited to only 69 pieces in platinum, the watch features a distinctive Flat Tortue case measuring approximately 45.2mm by 37.5mm and just 8mm in overall height. Its platinum construction is paired with a smoked sapphire dial and a steel dial bridge incorporating white-gold apertures, while blued-steel and rhodium-plated hands complete the highly architectural display. The result is a watch that feels both exceptionally modern and deeply rooted in traditional mechanical craftsmanship.

The smoked sapphire dial is one of the defining characteristics of the Vagabondage II, allowing the beautifully finished 18k rose gold movement to remain visible beneath the display. Rather than conventional hands for the hours and minutes, the watch uses an innovative digital jumping display, with rotating discs appearing through apertures aligned along the centre of the dial. A small seconds indication is positioned at 6 o’clock, while the power reserve is displayed by a hand at 12 o’clock. The dial itself deliberately carries no F.P. Journe signature, preserving the minimalist and unconventional character of the original Vagabondage concept.

Powering the Vagabondage II is the manually wound Calibre 1509, constructed in 18k rose gold and comprising 234 components and 31 jewels. Measuring approximately 29.3mm by 28.2mm and 5.30mm thick, the movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and incorporates a free-sprung balance with four inertia weights and a flat Anachron balance spring. Its one-minute constant-force mechanism is protected by patent EP 1528443, while the movement provides approximately 28 ± 2 hours of autonomy. Through the smoked sapphire dial, collectors can admire the movement’s partly circular-grained base plate, Geneva-wave finishing, polished screw heads, and chamfered slots.

The platinum Vagabondage II Ref. VII was produced as part of an exceptionally small series of just 69 watches, with priority offered to owners of the earlier Vagabondage I for matching serial numbers. This particular example is from 2010 and is presented as a full set, making it an especially compelling proposition for collectors of rare F.P. Journe timepieces.
