F.P. Journe Watches: 20 Pieces From Our Collection

Full collection of F.P. Journe watches at SHK Watches, including Tourbillon Souverain, Chronomètre Bleu, Octa Lune, Centigraphe and Élégante models

Collection Feature · F.P. Journe · Hong Kong

Twenty F.P. Journe watches in a single frame is not a photograph most dealers can take. The brand makes fewer than a thousand pieces a year across its entire output, so seeing this many together, in one room, at one time, is unusual anywhere in the world.

Everything below was shot at our Hong Kong showroom. This guide walks through the line-up collection by collection, and every piece links straight to its listing.

Why F.P. Journe watches are this hard to gather

Francois-paul Journe founded Montres Journe SA in Geneva in 1999, launching the Tourbillon Souverain the same year. Every dial since has carried the Latin phrase Invenit et Fecit, meaning he invented it and made it. That is a literal claim: the brand designs and manufactures its own movements, dials and cases rather than buying calibers in.

Annual output sits at roughly 800 to 1,000 mechanical watches. Journe also remains the only watchmaker to have taken the Aiguille d’Or at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève three times, winning in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Chanel acquired a twenty percent stake in the company in 2018, though Journe still runs it. For more on the brand’s philosophy, read what makes F.P. Journe so exclusive.

The 2004 movement change worth knowing

Before you buy anything pre-owned from this brand, understand one date. Until 2004, Journe built his movements from rhodium-plated brass. From 2004 onward he moved the entire production to solid 18k rose gold. Collectors treat the earlier brass-movement pieces as a separate, scarcer category, and price them accordingly. Always confirm which era a watch belongs to.

Chronomètre Optimum: four in one frame

The Optimum is Journe’s technical answer to the question of how accurate a wristwatch can be. It combines a remontoir d’égalité for constant force, a deadbeat seconds hand, twin mainspring barrels and his high-performance bi-axial escapement in one movement. Seeing four of them side by side is the sort of thing that happens perhaps once.

Chronomètre Souverain

Time and small seconds, nothing else, with two mainspring barrels running in parallel to hold a steadier rate. Many collectors consider it the purest thing the brand makes. Two are in the frame:

Tourbillon Souverain

The model the company launched with in 1999, and the first wristwatch tourbillon fitted with a remontoir d’égalité for constant force. Two are in the frame, and they show how the reference evolved:

Octa: one automatic calibre, six variations

Journe developed the automatic Octa calibre in 2001 around a five-day power reserve, designing it from the outset to accept different complication modules. That flexibility is why the family branched so widely. In 2002 the Octa Calendrier became the first wristwatch to pair an annual calendar with a large date.

Centigraphe and Chronographe

The Centigraphe times to one hundredth of a second across three registers, with a foudroyante hand sweeping the fastest scale. It won the Aiguille d’Or in 2008. Two chronograph pieces sit in this line-up:

Élégante and Vagabondage: the tortue cases

The three watches along the top row share a tortue-shaped case, but they could not be more different underneath.

The Élégante is Journe’s quartz, launched in 2014 and far cleverer than that word suggests. A motion sensor parks the hands after roughly half an hour of stillness while the movement keeps tracking time; pick it up and the hands sweep back to the correct position. Battery life runs eight to ten years in regular wear and up to eighteen in standby. Both examples here are diamond-set: the Élégante 48mm black dial in diamond-set titanium and the Élégante Diamond 48mm with luminescent dial.

Between them sits the Vagabondage II Ref. VII in platinum, limited to 69 pieces. It has no conventional dial at all: jumping digital hours and jumping digital seconds read through apertures over an exposed movement. Sixty-nine pieces per metal makes the Vagabondage series among the scarcest F.P. Journe watches in circulation.

What F.P. Journe watches cost in 2026

Because supply is structurally short, most references trade above retail. Entry to the brand sits in the tens of thousands, while Optimum, Tourbillon and limited Vagabondage references run well into six figures, and trophy pieces reach seven. Independent coverage of the brand tracks the same pattern.

Condition, dial variant, movement era and completeness of box and papers all move the number materially, so treat any published range as a starting point rather than a price. For what a specific reference costs today, check its listing or ask us. Our guide to pre-owned luxury watches as an investment covers the risks honestly.
