The Berneron Mirage 38 Miroir is an asymmetric 18k yellow gold dress watch with a fully gold, openworked hand-wound Calibre 283 and a 72-hour power reserve, made in only 36 pieces per year.

Founded in 2022 by designer Sylvain Berneron, Berneron describes the Mirage as the first shaped watch to draw its asymmetry from its calibre rather than from an external shape. The Mirage won the 2024 GPHG Audacity Prize, and the Miroir takes the idea further with an openworked “mirror” architecture in which the movement itself becomes the dial.
There is no separate dial: a sector guilloché pattern on the movement marks the hours, and the seconds wheel acts as a running indicator. The 18k yellow gold hands use an inverted hand set, with the hour hand on top, which helps keep the profile slim. The case measures 38 x 34mm, 42mm lug to lug and just 7mm thick (4.9mm visible height), with a hesalite top crystal, a sapphire caseback and 30 metres of water resistance.
Calibre 283 is Berneron’s proprietary hand-wound movement, a mirrored version of Calibre 233. It measures only 2.83mm thick, has 135 components and 17 jewels, beats at 21,600 vph with a free-sprung balance and stores 72 hours of power. The main plate and bridges are solid 18k gold and are hand-finished with guilloché, grained plate, colimaçonnage, anglage and cerclage. The case, hands, buckle and spring bars are also 18k gold, and the watch is worn on a Barenia leather strap with an 18k yellow gold buckle.
Berneron states that 100% of its components are made in the Swiss cantons of Neuchâtel and Jura, and each watch carries an individual case number.
