Berneron, founded in 2022 by designer Sylvain Berneron, describes the Mirage as the first shaped watch to draw its asymmetry from its calibre. The collection won the 2024 GPHG Audacity Prize, and the Miroir version turns the movement into the face of the watch through an openworked, mirrored architecture. This version is crafted in 18k white gold (Au750 Pd210).
Instead of a dial, a sector guilloché pattern on the gold movement marks the hours, and the seconds wheel serves as a running indicator. The 18k white gold hands are arranged in an inverted set with the hour hand on top, allowing a slimmer case. The 38 x 34mm case is 42mm lug to lug and only 7mm thick, with a hesalite crystal on top, a sapphire caseback and 30 metres of water resistance.
The proprietary hand-wound Calibre 283, a mirrored evolution of Calibre 233, is just 2.83mm thick. It uses 135 components and 17 jewels, beats at 21,600 vph with a free-sprung balance and offers a 72-hour power reserve, helped by a larger barrel. Its 18k gold main plate and bridges are decorated with guilloché, grained plate, anglage, cerclage and nuagé bridge pockets. The case, hands, buckle and spring bars are all 18k gold, and the watch is fitted on a Barenia leather strap with an 18k white gold buckle.
All components are made in the Neuchâtel and Jura cantons of Switzerland, and each piece carries an individual case number.
