The silver dial is particularly captivating, featuring three distinct engine-turned patterns, each reflecting light differently to create remarkable depth and subtle variations in tone. An asymmetric power-reserve display adds both functionality and visual character, while applied Arabic numerals and blued-steel Breguet hands reinforce the watch’s refined traditional aesthetic. At 6 o’clock, the subsidiary seconds dial discreetly carries the “VOUTILAINEN” cartouche, while the watchmaker’s signature tear-shaped lugs complete the elegant case design.
Through the sapphire crystal display back, the beautifully finished in-house modified Calibre 28 can be admired in full. Constructed from German silver and titanium, the manually wound movement features a free-sprung balance with Breguet over-coil and Grossmann interior curve, together with Voutilainen’s signature direct-impulse escapement using two large 13.6mm escapement wheels. The movement is finished with a combination of hand-executed anglage, polished, brushed, and frosted surfaces, demonstrating the exceptional level of finishing for which Kari Voutilainen is renowned. With approximately 50 hours of power reserve, the Vingt-8R combines mechanical sophistication with remarkable attention to detail.
